Benders is continuing its investment in prefabricated concrete elements. Just over one year from the start of Benders Byggsystem, Uddevalla is now being added as a production site. It joins the existing factory in Strängnäs and the newly acquired stairway manufacturing operation in Norberg. As early as next year, a complete factory is scheduled to be helping streamline the manufacture of concrete body components such as walls, floor structures, balconies and stairways.
Great demand and the availability of premises in Uddevalla opened the way for the investment.
Magnus Odhagen, MD of Benders Byggsystem, explains: “After the acquisition of Norbergstrappan, it was time for Benders Byggsystem to take the next step and also start filling our Uddevalla factory with own production. As there is a great market need for prefabricated concrete elements, the timing couldn’t be better.”
Recruitment of production operatives and production supervisors for the manufacture of stairways has already begun, as also the construction of mixer stations and the purchase of overhead cranes and pouring tables. After that, machines and equipment will gradually be installed in the premises so that, as early as the start of 2018, a complete factory should be up and running.
Niklas Jonsson, regional manager at Byggsystem Väst, adds: “To begin with, we’ll be getting a lot of help from various departments within the group. However, we hope that, relatively quickly, we’ll have a smoothly functioning unit with its own project management, designers and sales organisation working in close collaboration not only with the other units in Norberg, Stockholm and Strängnäs, but also with Benders Byggprodukter.”
Ove Bender, CEO of the Benders group, concludes: “Our unique logistics solutions involving trains and the possibility of boat transport from own quays also allow us to consider exporting products from Uddevalla. We have exciting times ahead of us.”
