Spikma kerbing design
Spikma kerbing is manufactured by special machines that were largely developed in-house. Very high-quality concrete is used for the kerbing. This guarantees low moisture absorption and good resistance to frost and road salt. The concrete’s compressive strength is a full 60 MPa and is checked daily along with flexural strength (6 MPa). Most of our kerbing also has a cast-in 5 mm reinforcement bar.

The Spikma method
Pinned kerbing was developed towards the end of the 1960s and, since then, has been manufactured and developed by Spikma and Benders. The need for prefabricated kerbing grew along with increased vehicular traffic and the problems this brought. A simple product that was cheap to maintain and could be laid quickly was needed.

The tunnel through Hallandsåsen comprises two single-track lines on a stretch that, in total, is 8.7 kilometres long. It runs from Båstad in the north to Förslöv in the south and is an important part of the west coast line between Gothenburg and Lund. The first trains are due to go through the tunnel in 2015. By then, Benders will have supplied the project with 35 kilometres of object-specific cable ducting.

It started in 1926
The “Bohus County Quarrying Industry Cooperative”, now owned by Benders, was founded in 1926. Focusing on manual craftsmanship, the cooperative soon established itself as a dominant player in the quarrying industry in the Bohuslän region of Sweden. Rock has always demanded skilled and respectful handling to give its very best. Even today, it is the granite that tells the mason where to set his or her chisel.
