When you lay paving stones or slabs, it is easy to forget the joints and their importance. The joints between the stones/slabs are not important just aesthetically. They also have several technical functions. Joints play a major role in achieving good results (exactly the same as do the choice of stones/slabs and correctly executed ground preparation).

Cellular plastic is a term that covers many types of plastics with different properties. Expanded polystyrene (EPS) and extruded polystyrene foam (XPS) are two of these plastics.

Cellular plastic is manufactured in homogenous blocks by expanding and foaming together small plastic beads (granulate). Block density can be varied and grade is determined by compressive strength in kPa.

EPS stands for expanded polystyrene, a rigid thermoplastic.EPS is manufactured in several steps. Small plastic beads (granulate) are expanded and foamed together into homogenous blocks. These are then cut into panels/sheets of an appropriate size.

Benders’ hollow blocks make it easy to build walls that withstand large stresses. The blocks simply stack on top of each other with no mortar. As the wall rises, reinforcement is added, both horizontally and vertically, course by course. The bricks are then filled with a concrete of suitable quality. This gives you a very strong, reinforced wall without any of the bother of formwork. Hollow blocks are also very suitable if, for example, you are building a pool, retaining wall, bunker silo or manure (slurry) pit. They can also be used in making foundations for machine halls and many other things.

Benders’ expanded clay blocks are made from expanded clay balls (fired expanded clay), sand, cement and water. They are available in different widths for building interior and exterior walls. There are also complementary “gauge blocks” in various heights to tackle height limitations in respect of your foundations or walls. Expanded clay beams (lintels) are available in all widths for use above window, door and other major openings.
